Membership Spotlight: Jane Hall

Dec 13, 2023

Welcome back to our Member Spotlight series, which shines a light on the impressive members of our community doing important work inside—and outside—of Workhorse. This month, we talked to Dr. Jane Hall, a Dedicated Desk member with great taste in decor.

Can you tell us a bit about your work? What do you do, and what do you love about it?

I’m a biomedical scientist, statistician, and California native who fell in love with the PNW and decided to raise my family here (Ph.D from University of California, San Francisco).

I work with academic physicians at universities all over the U.S. and Canada who want to learn how to make patient care better, safer, and higher value. I provide support through the entire life cycle of a research project from initial study design through data collection and management, to analysis, interpretation, and reporting (including publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals).

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? What are your interests and hobbies? What’s a fun fact?

I’m a mom of two wonderful girls, and I love to garden, grow food, forage, and generally poke around outdoors. That’s how I was inspired to study biology in the first place. Nature is a beautiful thing, and no amount of research will ever decrease its mystery and magic, in my eyes. Contemporary dance and reading lots of fiction are two other things that bring me joy.

What drew you to Workhorse? What’s your favorite thing about it? What problems does it help you solve?

What first drew me to Workhorse was the location. It’s an incredible spot in downtown Edmonds, near the water. You can always take a walk to the ferry landing, beach, art store, or lunch

The space itself is very calming, with nice quiet tucked away spaces (I use a Dedicated Desk) and yet you can always catch an acquaintance or friendly face in the shared areas of the kitchen if that’s something you’re looking for.

I brought in a nice big monitor and laptop stand (and all my lovely teas, + cardigan + throw pillow to help me feel cozy) and I feel like I can settle right in each morning and get to work!

The mail service and personal PO box are a great bonus as well—but my favorite part by far is the front desk staff. They’re always there to greet with a smile and help out however they can. Thanks for helping us feel so welcome and supported!

Look for Jane’s desk with a beautiful white monitor, wall hanging, and cozy moments she mentioned above, and don’t hesitate to say hey!
