Okay, local business owners, here are a few of the many questions you probably asked yourself (or are asking yourself if you’re considering starting a business): Where do I send my mail? Is it safe to register my business at my home address? What address do I put at the bottom of my email newsletters?
I’ve been there! I own a boutique copywriting agency based in Edmonds (I’m writing this blog from Workhorse right now, actually) and when I established it, I had no idea that services like the Workhorse Virtual Office existed.
And because I want you to start your business journey lightyears ahead of me, I’m giving you all the insider information about what I’ve learned about Virtual Office and Virtual Mail services at Workhorse. Keep reading so you can find the right solution for you and your business.
(Psssst, it’ll keep you safe and your personal and professional lives separated—you’re going to love it)
What is a Virtual Office and How Does it Work?
Think of a Virtual Office kind of like a Virtual Assistant—someone you know is there but isn’t in the same space as you physically. A Virtual Office gives you a mailing address to send your business mail, which can be scanned, forwarded, held, or shredded according to your preferences using our handy mail management platform. Plus, even Workhorse’s most basic Virtual Office option makes you a member, so you’ll get day passes and discounted conference room time, along with invitations to our continuing education sessions like lunch and learns and happy hours.
You simply need to check out the mail options and pick the right plan for you. Workhorse has two mail-only options and two Local Business options.

How My Business Uses a Virtual Office at Workhorse
For all intents and purposes, the distinction between Virtual Mail and Virtual Office is in the registered business address. When you register your business, you’re able to identify a physical address and a mailing address. They don’t have to be the same. You can register your business at your home and provide a different address for mail, OR you can use Workhorse as your registered business address.
In the second case, your home address is less discoverable online and you can use Workhorse’s address to set up review pages like Google My Business and Bing Places.
And, just this summer, we built a huge mailbox area where you can come to pick up your mail without having to speak to another soul if you don’t want to. I appreciate that I can be out running errands and pop by for my mail when it’s convenient for me. Just remember to come to the building during its open hours if you’re not also a Hot Desk member. The building is unlocked 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

What I Use the Virtual Mailbox For
I like to use my Virtual Mailbox for all the random mail that finds me—credit card offers, postcards, etc.—and the more important things like checks, correspondence from the Secretary of State, and more.
Plus, the Workhorse mailboxes have enough room for packages, so the next time I need something to make my office more productive, I can have it shipped directly to Workhorse instead of sending it to my house, remembering to put it in my car, remembering to bring it from my car upstairs, and so on. It just makes everything easier.
